Feel free to just use this calendar as a guide.If you don't have kids in your household, you can be done early or use the extra days to go over anything you've missed. I decided to split it up rather than trying to do every member of the household at once. There are assignments for adults' items and assignments for kids' items.on purpose so that the calendar could be used for any year (or any month, for that matter)! The June calendar runs from day 1-30, but I didn't line up the dates with Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc. I intentionally didn't put specific days of the week on the calendar.That way if you get busy and miss a day or you have a lot of a particular item and it ends up taking a little longer than you expected, you have a built in day to catch up and won't fall behind. I know life can get busy and schedules fill up, so by assigning a task only every other day, you essentially have two days to complete each one. There is a simple task to complete every other day.

It can feel like an overwhelming task, so recently I started trying to come up with a way to break it down into itty bitty pieces so that the decluttering process wouldn't feel so intimidating anymore. What has surprised you most about being a parent?Īfter giving birth, I realized I’d been living my life thinking about what sparks joy for me. Just by knowing how to fold clothes, it makes it easier to keep things organized. Rather than what’s difficult, I think about what’s important for them to know, and that’s what a space looks like when it’s actually tidy.

What’s the hardest thing for kids to learn when it comes to being neat? Then even if your family is not as tidy, it’s OK. If you can keep your personal space tidy, it gives you a calm mindset. What’s really important is that you yourself can tidy up. But if she says she really doesn’t want to organize, I won’t say anything about that. I might say from here to here is your personal space, and if you decide to organize it, that would be great. But one thing that’s important for me is to figure out what people’s personal spaces are. I do think about the day that might actually happen.

What if they grow up and say they don’t want to tidy, they’d rather be messy? Sometimes my daughter starts folding hats or tries to fold placemats on the dining table. I try to do some of the washing and folding in front of her, deliberately. I try to show my older daughter the things I do daily. How have you demonstrated tidying to your daughters? The real difference is the parents - whether the kids have been watching their parents be organized and tidy, that makes a big difference. There are girls who might decide to organize or they might be playing and running around - and I’ve found the same thing for boys, as well. I haven’t noticed too much of a difference.
